Copaco Screenweavers: Triple recertification

The Cradle to Cradle Certified® Product Standard helps companies continuously improve the sustainability aspects of their products in the creation of a more sustainable future for all. The word ‘continuous’ is crucial here because a Cradle to Cradle Certified certification is not the end goal. Instead, it is the starting point of a long-term commitment to keep doing better.

The certification is valid only for two years, after which it needs recertification. Each recertification process implies stricter criteria. This stimulates companies to keep improving their product design and production processes.

C2C Platform aims to be a long-term partner for its clients, supporting them in optimizing their products in line with the continuous improvement principle of the C2C Certified Product Standard. One of our long-term partners is the Belgian company Copaco Screenweavers, with whom we have worked since 2014.

C2C Sunscreen fabrics

Copaco Screenweavers is a producer of sunscreen fabrics and insect screen mesh. Founded as a family business in 1958, it has since evolved into the market leader across Europe. The company is part of the Hunter Douglas Group since 2019.

Since 2014, C2C Platform has assessed and reassessed two products ranges:

• Ulterio, an interior sunscreen fabric based on recyclable materials. The screens are made from ecological fabrics and 100% recycled PET bottles. In addition, the fabrics are PVC free, and the full product process is environmentally friendly.
• Zilario is the same interior sunscreen fabric but coated a very thin layer of aluminum on the backside, reflecting over 70% of direct sunlight and heat. These screens maximize energy efficiency by preventing the transfer of warm or cold temperatures between the interior space and the outside world.

In 2014, and again in 2017 and 2019, Copaco Screenweavers obtained the Bronze level of the Cradle to Cradle Certified certification for both products ranges. The 2014 certification applied to version 3.0 of the Cradle to Cradle Certified Product Standard. The recertifications applied to version 3.1.

In March 2022, Copaco Screenweavers and C2C Platform managed to recertify the Ulterio and Zilario products once again. Moreover, for the categories Material Health and Water & Soil Stewardship, they assessed the products against version 4.0 of the Product Standard, the most ambitious and actionable standard yet.
